Surgery clinics

We offer a range of clinics and services at the surgery. There are some tasks you can do, such as health reviews, using our Accurx service.

If you would like to attend any of the below clinics, please book an appointment.

Antenatal clinic

Patients are seen by the midwife at the clinic by appointment, Wednesdays 9:30am to 11:30am.

For antenatal appointments at Hertford County, the New QEII or the Lister, please call 01438 286031.

Asthma clinic

This is run by the practice nurse on appointment basis.

Carers information and support

Are you a carer? Have you given us your details?

You are a carer if you provide help and support, unpaid, to a family member, friend or neighbour who would otherwise not be able to manage. The person you care for may have a physical or learning disability, dementia, mental health problems, may misuse drugs or alcohol or may be ill or frail.

The person may live with you or elsewhere, may be an adult or a child but if they rely on you for support, then you are a carer. Anyone can become a carer: Carers come from all walks of life, all cultures and can be of any age.

At Park Lane Surgery we have one carers’ champion Jess who can be contacted for advise at the surgery or you can collect a carer’s pack from the reception desk.

For more information please see our carer’s board in the waiting room or visit www.carersinherts.org.uk.

Child health surveillance

All the doctors in the practice carry out a programme of health and development screening in conjunction with the health visitors. Parents are invited to register their new baby for child health surveillance that continues until five years of age.

Clinical pharmacist

Please click on the links below for information regarding our clinical pharmacists:

COPD

This is run by the practice nurse by appointment.

Ear syringing

Ear syringing is no longer available at the surgery and is not routinely recommended due to the potential side effects of ear infections, tinnitus and perforating the ear drum. Earwax usually falls out on its own. To help clear it you can put olive oil in your ear twice a day for 14 days.

You will need a dropper for doing this properly which you can get from your pharmacy. Put a dropper full into the ear at room temperature and lie on your side for 5 minutes to allow the oil to soak into the wax. You can also try other medications to dissolve wax which are available from your pharmacist.

Ear syringing and suctioning is available from some private local services and we would encourage our patients to use these resources.

ECG

This is run by the health care assistant by appointment.

Family planning

The practice offers contraceptive advise and prescribing but no longer offers coil, implant and cap fitting, however this can be completed at the PCN hub, please contact the surgery for further details. You will need to contact a family planning centre.

Flu clinic

An influenza vaccination is particularly recommended for patients with asthma, heart, neurological disease, immuno suppression, liver, lung or kidney disease, diabetes, carers, patients over 65 years of age and residents of nursing and rest homes.

Please contact the reception staff in September for details of the vaccination dates and to make an appointment. If you are housebound, a home visit will be arranged to undertake this facility; however, we cannot always give you a specific date.

Sample collection

We have a sample collection twice a day at Park Lane Surgery the times of these are:

  • midday to 3:30pm
Information:

Please ensure if you are dropping in a sample to be sent off that it is before 3:30pm.

Self-certification

Doctors’ certificates are only needed after the first week off. For up to one week of sickness, self-certificates should be used which we will be happy to supply. If you need a certificate for the first week for any reason, this will be a private note for which there is a charge.

If you require a sick/fit note, please visit our sick (fit) notes section.

Services not covered by the NHS

The NHS does not cover medical examinations for insurance purposes, pre-employment, certain driving licences and fitness to travel or participate on some sports. Please ask the receptionist for details of our comprehensive list of fees and make a special appointment, if required.

Certificates other than the standard DSS certificates may incur a fee. This also applies to reports to private medical companies.

Travel clinic

Travel vaccinations are done by appointment system with the nurse. In the first instance a travel questionnaire should be requested from the surgery or printed from our website.

Please submit a travel risk assessment form and we will contact you once the nurse has reviewed the form. Ideally this should be planned 6 weeks before travelling. However, if time is limited, the nurses can still offer valuable advice.
